What is a Gorget?

A gorget is a rigid throat protector that fits under your fencing mask. Although rare, it is possible for a thrust to pass under the bib of the mask and land around the neck. For this reason, a gorget is one of the most important pieces of equipment we wear. They come in various shapes and sizes but the most important part is the rigid protector covering your trachea and the entire front side of your neck. The club does have loaner gorgets for students to use during practice. Here are the models of gorgets we recommend and where to get them.
