Foam sword

If your are interested in purchasing your own foam longsword for light gear sparring and use in the fundamentals class, here is the foam swords approved for use. Any of the GoNow padded weapons or Fakesteel weapons are able to be used within the club. We restrict it only to these brands because of the varying and unknown quality of homemade padded weapons.

Steel Longsword

If you feel like you’re ready to move onto steel, here are our recommendations for a beginner steel longsword. Caution! Not all steel longsword trainers are created equal. Some are far too rigid and heavy to be considered “sparring safe”. Sword trainers that are deemed not “sparring safe” are not permitted for use at SDS practices or events. There are certain manufactures that are preferred and that have good reputations. Please consult a coach before buying your steel trainer.

If you are looking to buy your first sidesword, here are our recommendations. Just like with longswords, not all sideswords are created equally and its important to get something that fits you. I will recommend a variety of beginner sideswords. If you are interested in a high quality sidesword, reach out to the sidesword coach for a recommendation. Again Please consult a coach before buying your steel trainer. We want to make sure you are investing in something that will serve you well.
