How to Stand With a Longsword
1. Feet Shoulder-Width Apart
Stand with your feet about shoulder-width or slightly wider.
Keep your weight centered, not leaning forward or back.
2. Lead With Your Dominant-Side Foot
If you’re right-handed: right foot forward.
Left-handed: left foot forward.
The lead foot points forward; the back foot angles outward about 45°.
3. Knees Soft, Not Locked
Slight bend in the knees.
Think “active,” not crouched—just enough to stay mobile.
4. Hips and Shoulders Relaxed
Hips face slightly toward your opponent, not fully square.
Shoulders stay relaxed and dropped; don’t hunch.
5. Maintain a Long Spine
Imagine a string pulling the top of your head upward.
Keep your back long and posture upright; don’t lean.
8. Stay Mobile
Your feet should glide when moving; avoid bouncing.
Always keep your stance structured but agile—think “light on your feet.”
